“Rock Me Baby” cd release

Monday, September 14, 7 pm @ the Lake Theater & Cafe, Lake Oswego

For immediate release

Contact: Tracy Turner-Pain (503-260-0445);Portland, Oregon, August 14, 2015

On Monday, September 14, King Louie Pain & LaRhonda Steele will release their first CD together, “Rock Me Baby,” at the Lake Theater & Cafe in Lake Oswego.  The CD features organist Pain & vocalist Steele along with several special guests: Renato Caranto, sax; Edwin Coleman III & Brian Foxworth, drums; Doug Lewis & Dave Iula, guitar; James Mullen, piano; and Steele’s daughters Lauren & Sarah Steele, background vocals.

But with the exception of one track—a powerhouse rendition of “Phenomenal Woman,” dedicated to the late Linda Hornbuckle & Janice Scroggins—the CD features a stripped down, spontaneous sound highlighting Steele’s alternately soulful & playful vocals.  Of the recording, Pain says, “LaRhonda Steele is Portland’s best-kept secret, but I think this CD will help put an end to that!”

September 14 happens to be the birthday of Tracy Turner-Pain, Louis’ wife and co-owner of Soul Sisters Productions, LLC, producer of this event, so this evening will be a celebration in more ways than one!

The cover charge is $15, with tickets available on-line

Oregon City, OR 97045
Price: Suggested Donation: $10

Fourteen-year-old Alyssa (Aly) Weiser-Lilly (cousin of Blues Music Award winner Lisa Mann) has had a rare brain cancer known as PNET since the age of 2 and is the only known survivor of a third occurrence of this disease. Aly has lived far longer than expected, but now her courageous fight is coming to an end. After much consideration, Aly has chosen to discontinue treatment and instead spend her end of life journey traveling and visiting her family in neighboring states.

Aly’s mother can’t work, as she has to take care of Aly (a full time job in itself) and her three sisters. Aly’s father has a slow-growing brain tumor which causes him to be fatigued, making it difficult to care for his family. Thanks to generous donations through a GoFundMe account, Aly was recently able to fulfill her dream and travel with her family but has since started hospice care.

Bruce Conte, guitarist with Tower Of Power for seven years and seven albums, will be joined by some of Portland's funkiest musicians for this very special Jimmy Mak’s event. Bruce faces ongoing financial difficulties stemming from leukemia and diabetes.  Now, for the second time, Bruce's Portland friends and admirers are pitching in to help.  Those will include: Andy Stokes, LaRhonda Steele, Ty Curtis, Louis "King Louie" Pain, Brian Foxworth, plus special guests!

Bruce Conte's uniquely funky guitar playing on T.O.P. classics, including "What is Hip," "Don't Change Horses in the Middle of the Stream," and "Squib Cakes,” have influenced generations of guitarists.  Since leaving T.O.P., Bruce has played & recorded with Rick Braun, El Chicano, and others.  Bruce has also led his own bands, including Hot Street, which included Louis Pain.  Louis and Soul Vaccination bandleader Dave Mills brought Bruce to Portland to play at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival and Jimmy Mak's in 2011, with the latter gig being captured on a memorable CD, "What is Hip.” A year later, Bruce contacted leukemia.

There will be two separately-ticketed shows, beginning at 7:30 and 10 pm. Advanced tickets will be available at www.tickettomato.com
